Asia

China

Traveling to China with the Way of Nature Fellowship is indeed a pilgrimage. John’s experience in China and his connection to both Taoist and Buddhist masters in the mountains of Southern China make this trip truly special. Many of the foundational cultivation methods taught in our programs have their roots in this ancient culture.

India

“Angkor Wat is one of the greatest archeological treasures of the world..”

India

India conjures images of exotic scents and rich colorful cities steeped in cultural history. Join one of our pilgrimages into this vast and diverse land. From the banks of the Ganges river to the foothills of the Himalayas, this Way of Nature Fellowship experience will be one you won’t soon forget.

Southeast Asia

Our Passage and Pilgrimage Program journeys to the ancient sacred forests, mountains, rivers and coasts of Southeast Asia; we also visit and meditate in this area's pagodas and temples. Southeast Asia is home to some of the world's richest, and, unfortunately, most endangered tropical forests. To help support the appreciation and the protection of these great forests, we emphasize pilgrimages to the forested mountains, coasts and islands of Bali and other parts of Indonesia, Thailand, Burma and Cambodia. We also go on pilgrimages to the sacred parks and temples of ancient, abandoned cities, such as Borobadur, Angkor Wat and Pagan. Our Sacred Passage Awareness Training and solo times will be located in different areas each year. Our Southeast Asian pilgrimages usually last from two to three weeks.Southeast Asia

We periodically offer a truly unique Pilgrimage to Cambodia's vast ruined city of Angkor Wat; you may join in conducting ceremony, meditation, and experiencing an extraordinary exploration of one of the world's most sacred places: Angkor Wat. Angkor is one of the greatest archeological treasures of the world. Closed for many years during the tragic civil wars in Cambodia, Angkor Wat only recently re-opened to the outside world. In 1968, John Milton was one of the last outsiders to work at Angkor; the ruins were then closed for decades. Your ceremonial work and meditations will focus on healing and protection of sacred sites of worldwide, and on the protection of Southeast Asia's critically endangered rainforests. Following your time at Angkor, you will journey to the exquisite coast of Southwest Thailand.

Tibet, Sikkim and Bhutan

Tibet, Sikkim & BhutanTibet

The Way of Nature Fellowship has periodically planned pilgrimages into Tibet Our pilgrimages have visited such sites as: the Potala-former home of the Dalai Lama, Samye monastery- the first Buddhist temple built in the 8th century by Padmasambahva, and sacred mountains and lakes, and meditation caves imbued with the energy of Tibet’s great masters. We also organize regular pilrimages to Mt. Kailas to do the classical kora (circumambulation) around this great sacred mountain. Mt. Kailas is one of the world's most spiritual places, deeply sacred to the Hindus, Jains, Buddhists and Bonpo. We do our pilgrimages there combined with doing four vision quests at each of Kailas' main direction points.

Bhutan & Sikkim

These small himalayan kingdoms have retained their rich cultural and religious heritage - mostly due to their geographic isolation, strict rules for entry and short lengths of stay. Both countries have preserved large natural areas in national parks and wildlife reserves. Tibetan culture and spirituality has been a powerful influence here, supporting our Awareness Training and spiritual practice during our programs. Both Bhutan and Sikkin are free from any domestic uprisings, and are very safe areas for pilgrimage travel.

Nepal

Our Sacred Passage, Awareness Training and Pilgrimages in the Himalayan Mountains last from two to four weeks. Here you explore some of the world's most magnificent mountain ranges and sacred places. You trek through both the tropical forests of the lowlands (in areas where wild elephants, rhinos and tigers are still found), as well as in high alpine mountains and valleys bordering (and sometimes within) Tibet. Your journey often includes exciting, but safe and guided river rafting trips through spectacular Himalayan canyons. Nepal's famous sherpas and mountain porters will help you carry food, tents and camp gear into remote, beautiful locations for your Awareness Training and Passage solo. Because of this support, anyone in good health should be able to participate.

NepalOne of our special areas is the remote, rarely visited Arun Valley region of eastern Nepal. This "East of Mt. Everest" area has some of the most dramatic mountain views in all the Himalayas. It is also one of the most ecologically and culturally diverse places on earth. A journey here will take you through some of Nepal's wildest and most pristine montane rain forests, where red pandas, barking deer, musk deer, goral and snow leopards can still be found. During your Sacred Passage solo, you'll be surrounded by a panorama of three of the four highest peaks in the world: Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha), Makalu and Kangchenjunga. Although you will travel among the world's highest mountains, the trekking is not excessively strenuous and your journey will not exceed 10 to 14,000 feet in elevation.
